Ep. 29 No, Ilhan Omar Wasn’t Taken Out of Context

Bob critiques an article by Conor Friedersdorf, in which he mocks the right-wing outrage over Rep. Ilhan Omar’s 9/11 remarks as a tempest in a teapot. Why, if someone on the right made a similar slip of the tongue, Friedersdorf would expect the right-winger to be forgiven. This is of course ludicrous nonsense, as Bob explains.

Imagine if Saddam Hussein had said, “Look, some Americans did some things…” and appeared like the big concern in the wake of Bill Clinton murdering half a million Iraqi kids was to make sure the wrong Americans aren’t too troubled by the response. I wonder what the result would be.

Saddam Hussein would have found himself hanging from a rope if he had said something outrageous like that.

I don’t think leftists are lying when they say that Trump called Nazis fine people. They actually believe that anyone who didn’t want a Robert E Lee statue removed is a Nazi. And if you use that horrible definition of “Nazi” then Trump did say some Nazis are fine people. So, it’s not that they were lying. It’s that they don’t understand the definition of “Nazi.”

I loved your comparison about slavery being “some people doing some things.” That would never go over well. I thought of another one that would not go over too well. What if the situation with police officers shooting young black men were described as “some people did some things.”

Imagine if Mitt Romney gave a speech saying, “Some people did some things, and then all of the cops were blamed, and we had riots in the streets.”

I have a feeling that would not go over well at all.

I liked the last comparison about slavery. The only thing is, I am not sure this is so much of a conviction of Omar as it is just a demonstration of the hypocrisy of the left.
