“Frolicking” is right! What a fun episode of varied topics. You can’t go wrong with epistemology, labeling labels, and thinking about what others are thinking.

      Thanks!

I had fun. I was hoping others would too.

Bob, you mentioned observing sharp vs blowhard professors, where the former were always humble and asked clarifying questions. I don’t agree that you should always behave that way.

For example, if you are a Misesean apriorist, what could you possibly learn (about economics) by clarifying the details of some econometrician’s mathematical model of statistics or historical data?

And sure, there are some economists who reason as if they were apriorists (even though they wouldn’t admit it). But I feel that engaging with them is unlikely to yield insights that Austrians did not already know. Are there any examples of this happening?

When I heard the movie quote, I thought they were talking about hustling – throwing away small amounts of money to get the opponent excited to play and to bet more liberally. I’m surprised you didn’t address that idea.

Good point. That’s a fairly well-known concept. Good poker players have several different tactics to give the illusion of action. I suppose I should have mentioned something about that, but it didn’t have much to do with the quote in the movie.
